You may have noticed our new banner on the homepage celebrating 20 successful years in
business. We are proud of that accomplishment and appreciate all of our customers and vendors who have worked with us along the way and those that have been there since the beginning.

To celebrate this milestone at Commerce Label, we held a festive fall luncheon on September 29th.   There were 125+ attendees made up of our customers and suppliers, as well as friends, and family.  The food was provided by the Glockenspiel Restaurant of St Paul, MN. The party eventually had to move inside because of the Minnesota weather taking a turn and striking with record breaking wind conditions.

While everyone enjoyed a filling lunch we were able to personally speak with our guests and thank them for the partnership over the years. Throughout the event we gave plant tours to attendees.

There was also an employee appreciation celebration kick off at 3:00pm where we gave out commemorative awards to the founders and employee that has been with CLI since the doors opened in 1991.  Thankfully the winds lightened up and we were able to head back outside to enjoy a sunny fall evening under the tent.

The past 20 years have been good to us, here’s to the next 20!

These days, everyone wants to jump on the “Green” bandwagon. Saying you’re environmentally friendly is easy, though. Actually living up to that claim takes time and dedication.

We use the cleanest print processes available, generating few, if any, VOCs or hazardous waste during manufacturing. Our water-based waste ink is so minimal and non-threatening that it can be safely and cleanly disposed of through normal sewer draining. Even better, this poses no pollution or health risks to our community.

Beyond these efforts, we recycle all shop towels, corrugated, and office paper. Our digital UV inkjet process creates significantly less set-up and material waste, draws less operating energy, and creates no wasted ink.

Seeking a short run expanded content (expanded text) label?

Commerce prints expanded content labels that are reclosable multiple times, and offer printing on three panels. These labels can be constructed with a variety of materials, have an easy peel feature, and can be hinged to open right to left, left to right, top to bottom, or bottom to top.

Variable information can also be added. Examples may include a serial number, a variable barcode, or other similar personalization.

Commerce Label has recently developed a new product for short run two-sided interior window decal applications using a low tack adhesive coupled with an opaque paper substrate.

Try saying that 5 times quickly.

The process may be a mouthful to say, but when customers get to see how the product comes out in the end, the results speak for themselves.  The window decal can be printed in 4-color process on both sides, and can be over laminated for a matte or gloss appearance. Moreover, the label applies much easier than static cling decals, can be applied to surfaces other than glass, and may be reused if necessary.

We’re excited to announce that Commerce Label General Manager Chuck Stone has been appointed to the EFI Jetrion Advisory Board. The board met recently in Las Vegas during the EFI Connect event to discuss EFI’s line of UV inkjet digital press platforms.

In addition, conversation was held around the application of the digital inkjet printing  process for production of pressure sensitive labels and other packaging applications.

When Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) saw a unique way to help commemorate its Branch Rickey-Jackie Robinson Week and their historic partnership in breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier, the university found itself relying on Commerce Label (Plymouth) to pinch hit in the process. 

At issue was a unique and recently patented dual-cavity bottle called the Smiler – and OWU’s fast-approaching Rickey-Robinson celebration, which took place from Jan. 24-27, 2011.  Shaped in the form of a sphere, the bottle had a shrink-wrap label to make it look like a baseball (see photo).  And that’s what caught the attention of Mark Cooper, OWU’s director of Marketing and Communication.  

“When I saw it,” Cooper said, “I knew the custom-printed, baseball-shaped bottle would make a great souvenir for our Rickey-Robinson event. We filled it with candy and placed one of several motivational quotes in the separate compartment underneath. One bottle contained a unique quote and the random recipient of that bottle won a prize. It made our celebration even more special.”

But it was December 17, 2010.  And the bottle, due to be introduced during the PPAI Expo in Las Vegas in early January, was available only in prototype form – and with only a limited number of non-custom labels.  There were no customized shrink-wrap labels for the bottle that Cooper wanted to use as a commemorative souvenir.  Nor were there any customized labels for the caps. 

This is where Commerce Label came in.  Contacted by its longtime business partner Emergent Technologies (the developer and license holder for the patented bottle), Commerce stepped up to the plate to fast-track three different labels and seals needed for the project.  And OWU was able to introduce – for the first time ever – Emergent’s patented dual-cavity bottle in helping commemorate Branch Rickey – Jackie Robinson Week!
